Welcome

Welcome to the website of Learning Forward Mississippi, formerly known as the Mississippi Staff Development Council, an organization committed to the principle that effective professional learning for all educators is the key to improving student learning. Effective professional learning is driven by data about student and educator needs, is results oriented, and is embedded in the daily work of each educator. As an affiliate of Learning Forward, formerly known as National Staff Development Council, Learning Forward Mississippi supports the Learning Forward purpose, definition of professional learning, and standards for staff development. We invite you to explore this site and to join us in our quest for effective professional learning for all educators in Mississippi.

Vision

Every educator engages in effective professional learning every day so every student achieves.

Mission

Learning Forward advances educator effectiveness and student results through standards-based professional learning.

Learning Forward Mississippi's

Learning Retreat

November 4-5, 2013

Eagle Ridge Conference Center

Topic: Transforming Professional Learning

Facilitator:
Lois Kappler, Project Manager, Research and Curriculum Unit, Mississippi State University

AS21. MPES. SOARS. CCSS. M-STAR.

What do you see: A word scramble? Alphabet soup? Or familiar terms?

Yes, they are familiar to us, but how do we best handle all of these new

programs?

Facilitator: Lois Kappler

This year's retreat is an opportunity for high quality, standards-based professional learning specifically intended to help you improve theimplementation of all these initiatives. Come learn from an experienced educator and administrator how the initiatives overlap and best-practice tools and tips you can use for addressing these areas. Participants will receive a copy of the newly released book, A Playbook for Professional Learning: Putting the Standardsinto Action. Participants will also work together to create school- or district-based professional learning plans. With this experience, you will be prepared to best support and facilitate implementation of MPES, SOARS, CCSS, and M-STAR - where it matters most to each of us - in our schools and districts.
